What is a facelift?

Facelift also known as Rhytidectomy, continues to be the answer for patients that are seeking the ultimate facial rejuvenation, safely and effectively turning back the hands of time for a more youthful, smoother appearance. Facelifts have significantly evolved in the past 25 years in the plastic surgery world. From a surgical point of view, techniques have advanced allowing long lasting better results with less downtime. There are many benefits in having a facelift. The primary benefit of a facelift is the correction of sagginess. As we age, our skin loses its firmness all around, we lose the good fat in our face showing fine or deep wrinkling often accompanied with jowling. A neck lift is most commonly performed at the same time in order to achieve a well-balanced facial rejuvenation for a cleaner chin and jawline definition. A facelift surgically addresses the lower portion of the face improving mainly the cheeks and the nasolabial folds. Often times, earlobes are also rejuvenated with earlobe reduction or repair for those experiencing aging or sagginess due to earring “wear and tear”. This surgical procedure is performed in an operating room typically under general anesthesia and may take between 4 to 6 hours to complete. Facial muscles are pulled taut, the tissues are adjusted and the skin is smoothed out only to reveal a younger, refreshed face! A Facelift does not restore volume into the face, fat transfer is often recommended if desired. Dr. Sarmela Sunder’s impressive accolades and training in the nation’s finest institutions have allowed her to become an acclaimed expert in the field.
