A rhinoplasty is not the same procedure in a woman and a woman. While a common request among women is a more delicate or feminine version of their nose, men frequently request a strong nasal dorsum, which is characteristic of a masculine nose.

This distinction underscores the importance of choosing a surgeon who keenly understands the subtle and not-so-subtle differences between the male and female face. Dr. Sunder pays careful attention to the nuances of the male aesthetic when performing a rhinoplasty on a man. In addition, the nasal anatomy in a man is often different than that of a woman. For one, men tend to have thicker skin and cartilages. Finally, many men present to Dr.Sunder’s practice because of a change in their appearance resulting from a sports-related injury or trauma. Many want their nose to return to the pre-trauma state, while others want some further improvement or refinement.

The Surgery

Rhinoplasty literally means shaping the nose. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia with deep IV sedation or general anesthesia. The procedure generally takes about 2-4 hours, although it can vary depending on the complexity of the operation and whether you are having additional procedures done at the same time. There are two general classes of rhinoplasty.  In an external rhinoplasty (“open rhinoplasty”), an incision is placed on the columella, the skin that separates your two nostrils. In an endonasal  rhinoplasty (“closed rhinoplasty”), the incisions are placed inside your nose.  At your consultation, Dr.Sunder will decide which type you will need based on your concerns and anatomy.
