What is Kybella™?

KYBELLA™ (deoxycholic acid) injection is a prescription injectable medicine indicated to improve the appearance of moderate to severe submental fat (fat below the chin) popularly referred as the “double chin.” Kybella™ is identical to the deoxycholic acid that is naturally created in the body which helps the body absorb fats. Kybella™ is a cytolytic (cell disruption) drug which, when injected properly into submental fat tissue, destroys fat cells.

How Does Kybella Work?

Kybella™ was approved by the FDA in April 2015 making it the one and only injectable drug that contours and improves the appearance of submental fullness. Kybella™ is administered as a series of injections into the fatty tissue in the “double chin” area. Patients that are good candidates for this procedure generally require anywhere from 2 to 6 treatment visits, with each treatment visit scheduled approximately 4-6 weeks apart. Each treatment is composed of multiple injections. Requiring anywhere from 1 to 3 vials per treatment session.

Dr. Sarmela Sunder is one of the few handpicked Board Certified Facial Plastic Surgeons who has undergone extensive training and attended the Speakers Bureau Meeting in Chicago in order for her to offer this treatment to her patients before most practices nationwide. Submental fat is a coveted treatment in her Encino and Agoura Hills, CA practices.
