Turn back the clock with the benefits of a brow lift
The forehead and eye area reveal a lot about a person. It can give away their age, make them look older than they are, or even create a look of sadness, tiredness, or angriness when the face is at rest. While these are all natural features of the aging process, men and women are increasingly turning to cosmetic procedures to turn back the clock and reclaim their youth.
One popular procedure is the brow lift. A brow lift – also known as a forehead lift – aims to address deep creases, wrinkles, and sagging above and around the eyes. When executed by an experienced plastic surgeon, the results can be truly astounding.
Let’s take a closer look at the brow lift procedure.
What is a brow lift?
A brow lift is a surgical procedure performed to minimize the signs of aging on the forehead. It targets the deep, horizontal creases that stretch across the forehead and over the bridge of the nose. It also remedies the frown lines between the eyebrows while lifting the brows to create a more wakeful, alert appearance.
When you first consult with your doctor, they will recommend either a full or mini brow lift based on your individual needs and goals.
- A full brow lift works by lifting the skin frontally and laterally
- A mini brow lift works by only lifting the skin laterally
You may have a preference for one over the other. Be open with your doctor about your expectations and concerns.
Why do people get brow lifts?
As skin loses elasticity, the aging process generally causes the brows to move down. The distance between the eyebrows and eyelashes may also shorten. Lower eyebrows can cause you to look older than you are, tired, sad, or angry. Addressing this issue by raising the eyebrows and smoothing the skin can result in a refreshed, restored appearance.
How is the brow lift procedure performed?
A brow lift can be performed in several ways. At Sunder Plastic Surgery, Dr. Sunder aims to minimize the number and lengths of incisions to reduce downtime where possible. To achieve this, she uses an endoscopic approach.
This is a less invasive procedure that requires just two small incisions placed about one inch from the hairline. Shorter incisions result in less downtime and a more comfortable recovery.
A full brow lift is an outpatient surgery performed under general anesthesia that generally takes about two hours to complete. Mini or temporal lifts may be performed under local anesthetic and are typically finished in under two hours.
What can I expect from brow lift recovery?
Patients generally stay at an after-care facility for the night of surgery, but sometimes are allowed to go home the same day, depending on the doctor’s discretion.
Swelling may be noticeable for a week to a few weeks following surgery. You may also look surprised, though this will subside within two weeks’ time. Most people can return to their normal activities, including work, after 10 days.
It can take up to six months for all swelling to go down and scars to fade completely. Be patient and follow your doctor’s instructions carefully. Remember, good things come to those that wait.
What are the results of a brow lift?
Although results vary from patient to patient based on their pre-surgical appearance, a brow lift’s results will be visible immediately. This is yet another of the benefits of a brow lift procedure.
If you choose to get a brow lift, you may achieve the following results:
- Smoother or softer forehead wrinkles
- A youthful arch to the eyebrows
- Improved appearance of the crow’s feet wrinkles around the corner of the eyes
- Smoother frown lines between the eyebrows
- Less excess or sagging skin
- Elevated eyebrows that sit along the natural brow ridge for a wakeful yet balanced overall look
A brow lift can truly turn back the clock and restore a youthful, friendly expression to the face. It can address many of the most prominent signs of aging while maintaining the face’s natural, harmonious appearance.
