What is Kybella™?

KYBELLA™ (deoxycholic acid) injection is a prescription injectable medicine indicated to improve the appearance of moderate to severe submental fat (fat below the chin) popularly referred as the “double chin.” Kybella™ is identical to the deoxycholic acid that is naturally created in the body which helps the body absorb fats. Kybella™ is a cytolytic (cell disruption) drug which, when injected properly into submental fat tissue, destroys fat cells.

How Does Kybella Work?

Kybella™ was approved by the FDA in April 2015 making it the one and only injectable drug that contours and improves the appearance of submental fullness. Kybella™ is administered as a series of injections into the fatty tissue in the “double chin” area. Patients who are good candidates for this procedure generally require anywhere from 2 to 6 treatment visits, with each treatment visit scheduled approximately 4 to 6 weeks apart. Each treatment is composed of multiple injections. Requiring anywhere from 1 to 3 vials per treatment session.
